Origin and history

The Hotel de Combray is a mansion built in the 18th century, located between numbers 15 and 21 of Gambetta Street in Falaise, Normandy. This monument is distinguished by its entrance gate, registered as historical monuments since 16 June 1973. It embodies the civil architecture of this period, with vestiges including the portal and commons (remises and domestic housing).

The hotel belonged to the Combray family, of which Caroline de Combray was born. Later, it became the property of Jean Goy, MP, before being occupied by Feldgendarmerie 884, which installed its offices there. Today, there remains a testimony of local history and the evolution of its use, moving from the private domain to administrative functions.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its partial registration (portal) and specify its exact address: 17 rue Gambetta. The building, partially destroyed, retains significant architectural elements, reflecting its heritage importance in Calvados.
