Origin and history

The dovecoier-award of Maignaut-Tauzia is an atypical construction dating from the 19th century, remarkable for its triangular plan and its dual function. Traditionally referred to as "pigeon-grant", he distinguished himself from other similar buildings in Gers by his unusual tax role and the finesse of his masonry. Two terracotta heads adorn the arêtiers, adding a decorative touch to this utility structure.

The whole is complemented by a fountain-wash and an old basin, stressing its importance in local daily life. The fountain, although not cadastral, is an integral part of the monument, which was included in the inventory of Historical Monuments by order of 15 January 2010. Today, the site is managed by an association, but its access to the public (visits, rental, accommodation) is not specified in the available sources.

The location of the monument, at 290 Chemin de Ronde in Maignaut-Tauzia (Gers), is estimated with "a priori satisfactory" accuracy (note 6/10). This type of construction reflects the practical needs of 19th century rural communities, where public buildings often combined several uses to optimize resources and space. Its architectural originality makes it a rare testimony of local adaptations to the fiscal and agricultural constraints of the time.
