Origin and history

The convent of Minimes de Pourrières is a religious building located in the commune of Pourrières, in the department of Var (83), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. This monument, partially inscribed in the Historical Monuments since 1991, includes a remarkable architectural ensemble, including facades, a chapel and a cloister with its galleries. Its implantation in the local landscape reflects the importance of begging orders in south-eastern France in modern times.

The Minimes, a religious order founded in the 15th century, were established in many French regions, especially in Provence. Their convent of Pourrières, although little documented in available sources, illustrates their spiritual and social role. Conventual buildings, often organized around a cloister, served as a place of prayer, reception and sometimes teaching for local people.

The 1991 inscription specifically protects the most emblematic architectural elements, demonstrating their heritage value.
