Origin and history

The Minimes de la Seigne convent is a former convent located in Montlebon, Doubs department, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Founded for religious of the order of the Minimes, it occupies an elevated position in the Jura massif, overlooking the bed of the Doubs which separates it from the neighbouring city of Morteau. Authorization for installation of the Minimes was granted in 1626, but the exact date of completion remains unknown. The convent church, dedicated to the Assumption, was consecrated in 1686.

The convent buildings and the church were reallocated in the 20th century to serve as a town hall and parish church. Since 1973, the facades, roofs of the convent buildings and the chapel (now parish church) have been listed as historical monuments. The convent has a mainly Romanesque architectural style, with Gothic elements in parts of the chapel.

Owned by the municipality of Montlebon, the site is now a place of worship and an administrative building. Its inscription in the historical heritage bears witness to its architectural and religious importance in the region. The location of the convent on an elevated square reinforces its emblematic character in the Jura landscape.
