Origin and history

The Minima Convent of Semur-en-Auxois is a religious building built during the first half of the seventeenth century. Located at 2-4 quai Baudon, in the municipality of Semur-en-Auxois (Côte-d'Or), it is representative of the Conventual architecture of this period. The site includes the remains of the chapel of Saint James, as well as elements protected by a decree of inscription in 1991, covering the convent and its archaeological ground.

The convent, now partially preserved, bears witness to the implantation of begging orders in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. These religious communities played a central role in the spiritual and social life of cities, providing assistance and guidance to local populations. The inscription of the convent as a Historical Monument in 1991 underscores its heritage importance and the desire to preserve the material traces of this period.

Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum database, confirm its precise address and legal status. The location, noted as "very satisfactory" (level 8/10), allows a clear identification of the site. No additional information on the founders, major transformations or uses after its foundation is mentioned in the data consulted.
