Origin and history
The convent of the Sisters of Gramat, located in Cahors in the Occitanie region, is a historical monument dating back to the 15th and 17th centuries. This religious place is distinguished by two major architectural elements: a door on courtyard dating from the 15th century and a monumental door on 17th century street. These elements reflect the stylistic and craft developments of their respective times.
The 15th century door is flanked by two foothills surmounted by pinnacles, with a lintel and a braided headband decorated with a carved damping. A bas-relief embedded in the wall represents two characters supporting a shield, adding a symbolic dimension to the building. The 17th century door is characterized by carved walnut woodwork, organized in decorative panels, six of which are decorated with carved motifs.
Both doors were protected by registration orders under the Historical Monuments: the monumental door with its woodwork on October 21, 1925, and the 15th century door with its shield on February 13, 1926. These protections reflect the heritage value of these elements, both architecturally and historically.
The convent is located at 49 rue des Soubirous in Cahors, in the Lot department. Although the practical information on current visits or uses is not specified, its address and protection make it a site of interest for the study of the religious and civil heritage of the Occitan region.
