Origin and history

The Cross of St.Christophus, located on the church square in Larré in the Morbihan, dates from the 4th quarter of the 15th century. Originally erected at the branch line of a road leading to The Hague Creek, it is now located southwest of the church, at the site of the old cemetery. Its architecture is distinguished by a form of four-leaf cross, surmounted by a Virgin with the Child. The crucified Christ is represented there between the Virgin and Saint John, while the reverse shows Christ seated surrounded by the attributes of the Passion.

The cross has been listed as historical monuments since June 6, 1939. It belongs to the municipality of Larré and presents a drum which is not the original one. The four-leaf pattern includes redents corresponding to the parts of the barrel, head and arms. At the back, Saint Christophe is also figurative, adding a symbolic dimension to this religious monument.

The location of the cross, initially linked to a rural path, then moved near the church, reflects its role in the community and spiritual life of Larré. Its inscription as a historical monument underlines its heritage and artistic importance, typical of the Breton crosses of the late Middle Ages.
