Origin and history

The cross of intersection of Brienne-la-Veille is an emblematic monument located in the municipality of the same name, in the Aube department, in the Grand Est region. Dating from the 2nd quarter of the 18th century, this wrought iron cross bears witness to the local craftsmanship and religious traditions of the period. It is located at the entrance to the village, marking a historical and cultural landmark for residents and visitors.

Classified as historical monuments by decree of 25 November 1916, this cross illustrates the importance of religious symbols in the development of rural areas in the 18th century. At that time, cross-crosses often served as spiritual and practical landmarks, delineating spaces or commemorating local events. Their presence also reflected the social and religious organization of village communities, where the Catholic faith played a central role in daily life.
