Origin and history

La Croix de Beaumont is a historical monument located on the Place du Bourg de Beaumont, in Corrèze (Nouvelle-Aquitaine). Dating from the 16th century, this granite cross is distinguished by its monolithic barrel and sculptures. It represents a crucified Christ surrounded by two characters standing on the base, while another character is engraved on the barrel. Originally, it probably marked the place of a tomb, that of a knight according to local tradition.

The cross was inscribed as a Historical Monument by order of 19 March 1927. Today it belongs to the commune of Beaumont. Its current location on the central square of the village suggests a symbolic or commemorative role in local life. The sculptural details, such as human figures and Christ, reflect the artistic and religious practices of the Renaissance in Limousin.
