Monolithic Cross known as the Cross of Bezon (Box YS 1): inscription by order of 30 May 1927
Origin and history
The cross of Bezon, also known as the Perrinet cross, is a cross of paths located in the hamlet of Bezon, in Ploërmel, Morbihan department. This granite monument, dated from the seventeenth century, is distinguished by its simplicity: a circular barrel topped by a monolithic cross representing a Christ. It is located about 730 metres north of the Bezon Guyot Cross, on Rue de la Croix-Perinet.
The cross was inscribed as historical monuments by an order of 30 May 1927. This classification reflects its heritage importance, although its decor remains sober, without any additional ornaments. The square base and granite structure reflect the size techniques and local artistic styles of the era.
This type of cross, frequent in Brittany, often served as a point of reference or a place of devotion for the inhabitants and pilgrims. They marked roads, crossroads or village entrances, playing a role both religious and practical in the spatial organization of rural territories. Their presence illustrates the deep anchoring of Christianity in the daily life of Breton communities in the 17th and 18th centuries.
