Stone crossing of the 16th century: classification by decree of 14 June 1909
Origin and history
The cross of Vincey is a historical monument located in the commune of Vincey, in the department of Vosges (Great East region). Dating from the 16th century, it is characteristic of the stone crossroads crosses erected at that time, often for religious or commemorative purposes. These monuments served as spiritual and symbolic landmarks for the inhabitants, marking important gathering places or intersections in the villages.
Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 14 June 1909, this cross is now owned by Vincey. Its location, reported at approximately 1 Rue du Chef Houot, reflects its integration into the local urban landscape. Crosses, such as Vincey's, played a central role in medieval and reborn community life, serving as points of prayer, protection or commemoration for the rural populations of Lorraine.
