Road crossing: registration by decree of 23 May 1927
Origin and history
The Road Cross of the Moustoir-des-Fleurs stands near the place known as Moustoir-des-Fleurs, in the commune of Grand-Champ, in Morbihan (British). Originally erected on the old Hent Conan (Grand Chemin), it was moved in 1914 when the current road was designed. Today, it is hidden by vegetation, about 100 meters from the nearby chapel, on the right side of the road leading to Grand-Champ.
The cross presents a polygonal monolithic barrel, surmounted by a Christ sheltered under an awning. This type of modest architecture, typical of the Breton road crosses, reflects its role both religious and significant for travellers or pilgrims. Its inscription in the title of historical monuments, by order of 23 May 1927, emphasizes its local heritage value.
Owned by the commune of Grand-Champ, the cross illustrates the history of ancient ways of communication, such as the Hent Conan, and their evolution in the 20th century. Its movement in 1914 reflected the transformation of the rural landscape of Brittany, where religious monuments often served as geographical or spiritual landmarks. Today, its state of conservation and its discreet location make it a discrete but emblematic element of the Morbihan heritage.
