Stone road cross of the 16th century: classification by decree of 1 October 1913

Origin and history

The road cross of Saint-Ouen-lès-Parey is a 16th century stone monument. It is located in the commune of Saint-Ouen-lès-Parey, in the department of Vosges (88), in the region of Grand Est. This type of monument, typical of medieval and renaissant countryside, often served as a religious landmark or symbol for travellers and local residents.

Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 1 October 1913, this cross is today the property of the municipality. The cross of paths played an important role in the social and spiritual life of the villages, often marking gathering places or prayer points. Their presence reflects the importance of religion in the organization of the rural communities of the time, especially in regions such as Lorraine, marked by a strong Christian tradition.
