The Iron Cross (Box C01 580): inscription by order of 18 June 2010
Origin and history
The cemetery cross of Miramont-de-Cominges is a historical monument located in the municipality of the same name, in Haute-Garonne (Occitanie). Originally installed Church Square, it was moved to the local cemetery. Its existence has sometimes been questioned, some believing it destroyed before its rediscovery.
This iron cross, protected by a registration order in 2010, belongs to the commune. Its current location in the cemetery reflects its initial role as a religious and commemorative marker. The archives mention poor geographical accuracy (level 5/10), with an approximate address at 4 Rue Peyraga.
The monument illustrates the importance of cemetery crosses in Occitan villages, often linked to parish life and local funeral practices. Its displacement reflects urban developments and the choices to preserve the communal heritage.
