Cemetery Cross: Registration by Order of 17 June 1926

Origin and history

The cemetery cross of Dercé is a historical monument located in the department of Vienna, in the region of New Aquitaine. This monument, inscribed by ministerial decree on 17 June 1926, is precisely at 4 Rue Sainte-Radegonde, in the commune of Dercé (code Insee 86093). It belongs to the municipality and is an integral part of the local funeral heritage.

The cemetery crosses occupied a central place in French villages, especially in rural areas such as Poitou. They served as a spiritual and social landmark, marking the entrance of burial places and symbolizing the Christian faith of communities. Their presence often reflected the collective organisation around religious practices, essential to the daily life of the inhabitants until the 20th century.
