Origin and history

The cemetery cross of Dercé is a historical monument located in the department of Vienna, in the region of New Aquitaine. This monument, inscribed by ministerial decree on 17 June 1926, is precisely at 4 Rue Sainte-Radegonde, in the commune of Dercé (code Insee 86093). It belongs to the municipality and is an integral part of the local funeral heritage.

The cemetery crosses occupied a central place in French villages, especially in rural areas such as Poitou. They served as a spiritual and social landmark, marking the entrance of burial places and symbolizing the Christian faith of communities.
