Origin and history
La Croix de l'Uradour is a cross of medieval road located in Bassignac-le-Haut, in the department of Corrèze (Nouvelle-Aquitaine). It has been listed as a historic monument since January 24, 1927. This granite monument, 2.30 meters high, presents a representation of Christ on the cross on one side and a Virgin with the Child on the other, framed in an openwork quadrulobe. Its square section drum is adorned with half-balls at corners.
Dating from the Middle Ages, this cross of paths testifies to popular piety and the Christianization of the countryside. It was probably a spiritual landmark and a place of devotion for local residents, marking a path or crossroads. These monuments also served as gathering points for processions or collective prayers.
