Origin and history

The Croix des Grangettes was erected thanks to a bequest of 100 francs made in 1761 by François Xavier Barthelet-Goguet, a resident of the Grangettes. This monument, designed for the cemetery of the local church, carries instruments of the Passion, although some have disappeared according to the mayor. It consists of a walk, a limestone pedestal and a wrought iron cross maintained by metal consoles.

The sommital part of the cross represents an ostensoir, evoking the symbolism of Christ the King or the miracle of Faverney of 1608. A cross surmounted by a crown and the IHS letters (visible in a 1984 photo) also adorn the monument. Memorial plaques relating to the two world wars were added to the pedestal. In 2011, the commune restored the cross, stripping and repainting it, while pivoting it by a quarter of a turn when it was reassembled.

Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 26 October 2023, the Croix des Grangettes is located at 12 rue de l'Eglise, on Parcel No.108 of the communal cadastre. It belongs to the commune and remains accessible in the church cemetery. Its location is estimated to be fair (note 5/10), and it has been photographed under Creative Commons license.
