Calvaire dit Croix Dom Jan (non cadastre ; public domain): classification by decree of 21 September 1938

Origin and history

The Dom Jan cross is a granite calvary located in the municipality of Landébia, in the department of Côtes-d'Armor in Brittany. Dating from the 16th century, this monument consists of a three-degree square base, topped by an octagonal barrel. On its main faces are carved Christ on the cross and the Virgin on the Child, while two smaller side crosses represent the larrons. This type of calvary, typical of Brittany, served both as a religious landmark and as a gathering place for processions or community prayers.

Classified as historical monuments by decree of 21 September 1938, the Dom Jan cross illustrates Breton religious art of the Renaissance. His iconography, centered on the Passion of Christ, reflects the importance of popular devotion at that time. The property of the monument now belongs to the municipality of Landebia, and its state of conservation depends on local initiatives to preserve the heritage. This ordeal is part of a wider set of similar monuments scattered in Brittany, testifying to the artistic and spiritual richness of the region.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and the Merimée base, confirm its ranking and precise location at the approximate address of 27 Rue du Hautrel. Although geographical accuracy is assessed as poor (level 5/10), the monument remains a point of historical and tourist interest for the municipality. Its architectural style and granite sculptures make it a remarkable example of Breton calvaries, often associated with pilgrimage paths or village entrances.
