Monolithic Cross (Case ZT 74): inscription by order of 23 May 1927

Origin and history

La Croix du Mont, located in the municipality of Guéhenno in Morbihan (Bretagne), is an emblematic monument of medieval Christian architecture. This monolithic cross, of high Middle Ages type, is distinguished by its short and slightly pawed arms. It is located on a historical path leading to the chapels Saint-Michel and Saint-Marc, highlighting its role in the pilgrimages or local movements of the time.

Ranked among historical monuments since May 23, 1927, the Cross of the Mount illustrates the importance of the road crosses in Brittany during the Middle Ages. These buildings often served as spiritual landmarks, territorial landmarks or gathering points for rural communities. Their presence also reflected the progressive Christianization of the countryside, where religious symbols marked space and rhythmized daily life.

Available sources, such as Monumentum and Wikipedia, specify that the cross is protected under ZT 74 in the cadastre. Its state of conservation and its approximate location (noted 6/10 precisely) suggest a legacy that is both fragile and anchored in the landscape. No information, however, mentions major restorations or specific historical events related to this monument, outside its official protection in 1927.
