Origin and history

La Croix du Mont, erected in 1622, is a monumental cross located in the commune of Villers-la-Combe, in the Doubs department. It is on the outskirts of the village, on the road leading to Germéfontaine. This religious monument, typical of the 17th century road crosses, bears witness to popular piety and processional practices of the time.

The cross has been listed as historical monuments since 7 July 1989. Every year, August 15, she is the subject of rogations, processions accompanied by intercession prayers. These ceremonies reflect the spiritual and community importance of this type of monument in local life, particularly in the rural areas of Franche-Comté.

The monument is owned by Villers-la-Combe. Although its location is approximate (4 Church Street), it remains a historical and cultural landmark for the region. Its listing in the inventory of historical monuments highlights its heritage value and its role in local Christian architecture.
