Origin and history

The stone cross of the "point of view" is an emblematic monument of Verseilles-le-Haut, a commune in the Great East. Dating from the 17th century, it is representative of the cross of road or crossroads erected at that time, often to mark a place of assembly, a territorial limit or a remarkable point of view. Its inscription in the Historical Monuments by order of 21 October 1925 bears witness to its heritage importance and its preservation as part of the local cultural landscape.

In the 17th century, the Champagne-Ardenne region, now part of the Greater East, was marked by a rural society where religious or memorial monuments played a central role in community life.
