Origin and history

The Cross of Terres de Bord is a historic monument located in the commune of Terres de Bord, Normandy. Dated from the 15th and 16th centuries, it is precisely square of the church, a typical location for the cemetery crosses of this time. This type of monument served both as a spiritual landmark and as a gathering place for religious or funeral ceremonies.

The cross was listed as historic monuments on December 3, 1954, an official recognition of its heritage value. At that time, the cemetery crosses were often central points of the villages, symbolizing the Christian faith while marking the sacred space around the churches. Their preservation now allows us to understand the social and religious organization of the rural communities of modern times.

Although sources also mention the city of Montaure, GPS location and administrative data clearly indicate that the cross is located in Terres de Bord, in the department of Eure. This geographical confusion may be due to territorial reorganizations or transcription errors in heritage databases. The cross remains a characteristic example of Norman religious architecture of the transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
