Cross located opposite the chapel of Condemène : inscription by order of 10 October 1986

Origin and history

The cross of La Loyère is a monumental cross located in the municipality of Fragnes-La Loyère, in the department of Saône-et-Loire. This monument, typical of the cross of road or crossroads, marks the local landscape and bears witness to a religious and historical heritage still visible today. Its precise location, facing the chapel of Condemène, suggests a link with the religious or commemorative practices of the region.

Classified as historical monuments by order of 10 October 1986, this cross enjoys official protection which underlines its heritage importance. Like many similar monuments in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, it could have served as a spiritual landmark or symbol of piety for the locals. The monumental crosses were often erected near chapels, paths or gathering places, playing both a religious and a social role in rural communities.
