Origin and history

La Croix de Vallentigny is an emblematic monument located in the municipality of the same name, in the Aube department, in the Grand Est region. It dates back to the 18th century and is distinguished by its column and base, protected as historical monuments since 1972. Located in the local cemetery, it embodies the funerary and religious heritage of this period, marked by a sober and symbolic architecture.

In the 18th century, the cemetery crosses played a central role in the rural communities of Champagne-Ardenne. They served as a spiritual and social landmark, often erected at the initiative of local parishes or families. These monuments also reflected the collective organization around places of worship, where religious practices, commemorations and village life were mixed.

The cross of Vallentigny is part of this tradition, although its specific historical details remain partially documented.
