Origin and history

La Croix de Saint-Pierre-Laval is a cross of the road in the Allier department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This monument, probably dating back to the Middle Ages, is located in the commune of Saint-Pierre-Laval, more precisely at Place publique or near the Plan de Morlot. Its inscription in the title of historical monuments, which took place by decree on 19 May 1925, bears witness to its local heritage importance.

The cross-roads, frequent in the French countryside, often served as religious landmarks or symbols for travellers and residents. In the Bourbonnais, a historical region to which Saint-Pierre-Laval belongs, these monuments also marked gathering places or crossroads. Their presence reflected the importance of the Christian faith in the daily life of rural communities, especially in the Middle Ages and later times.
