Origin and history
La Croix de Sainte-Alvère is a historical monument located in Val de Louyre and Caudeau, Dordogne, New Aquitaine. Dating from the 18th century, this iron cross rests on a stone base whose mouldings and shape recall the Louis XV style. It is located on the village square, in front of the eastern façade of the church, and embodies a typical example of religious art of this period.
The iron elements of the cross symbolize the nails and crown of thorns, thus evoking the Passion of Christ. This monument, inscribed by decree of 17 October 1995, belongs to the commune and is located on the public domain. Its precise location, in front of the church, highlights its central role in the religious and community life of the village.
The location of the cross is indicated as being on the Place de la Liberté in Sainte-Alvère, although GPS coordinates suggest a close address, in 0 Place du Marché aux Truffes. This disparity reflects uncertainties related to the accuracy of available geographic data.
