Croix Saint-Lambert : inscription by decree of 14 April 1930

Origin and history

La Croix Saint-Lambert is an emblematic monument located in the commune of L'Hermitage-Lorge, Brittany. Located in the forest of Lorge, it dates from the 2nd quarter of the 18th century, a period marked by religious architecture still influenced by classical and Baroque styles. Its designation as historic monuments, by order of 14 April 1930, emphasizes its heritage importance and its historical value to the region.

The precise location of the cross, mentioned in the Merimée and Monumentum bases, the square near the town of Plœuc-L'Hermitage, although its official address remains L'Hermitage-Lorge. This type of cross, frequent in Brittany, often served as a spiritual or memorial landmark, reflecting local piety and traditions. The crosses of that time were generally erected at crossroads, bordering roads or gathering places, playing both a religious and a social role.

The Côtes-d'Armor department, where the Saint-Lambert cross is located, was at this time a rural and agricultural region, marked by a strong Breton identity. Religious monuments such as this cross were central elements of community life, serving as points of prayer, commemoration or symbolic protection. Their preservation today makes it possible to understand the cultural and religious practices of the period, as well as the evolution of the Breton landscape over the centuries.
