Origin and history
Davadan House is a remarkable civil building located in Mantoche, in the department of Haute-Saône in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Built in the 16th century, it is distinguished by its back part erected in 1514 by Hugues Davadan, followed by an expansion in 1564. The building preserves architectural elements typical of the Renaissance, such as galleries indicated by double bays or triple bays, with ground-cut stone legs and sills. These galleries, rare for this type of monument, bear witness to its historical importance and its stylistic originality.
Davadan House underwent transformations between the 18th and 20th centuries, partially altering its original appearance. Despite these changes, it was recognized for its heritage value and listed as historic monuments by order of 6 October 2000. Today it is owned by the municipality of Mantoche and is located at 3 rue d'Apremont. Its state of conservation and its architectural peculiarities make it a notable example of the bourgeois settlement of the Renaissance in Franche-Comté.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its typological and historical interest. The presence of galleries on two levels, although partially preserved, is a distinctive feature of the regional heritage. Davadan House thus illustrates the evolution of the constructive techniques and lifestyles of the aristocracy or the local bourgeoisie in the Renaissance, while reflecting the subsequent adaptations to the needs and tastes of later eras.
