Origin and history
The Delort House is a historic monument located in Arbois, in the Jura department, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. Built in the 18th century, this bourgeois house was acquired in 1814 by the general and Baron of the Delort Empire, who profoundly transformed it. He embellished the house, enlarged the communes and developed a park, adding a gate decorated with his weapons. The main building, rectangular in shape, includes a stair tower covered in terrace and preserves period interiors, especially in the large living room and rooms.
The vaulted cellar, located on the ground floor, bears witness to the utilitarian architecture of the time. The elements protected by the 2006 inscription include the entire house body, the facades and roofs of the communes, as well as fences and gates. The residence thus illustrates the evolution of an aristocratic residence under the influence of a distinguished military member of the Empire.
Today, the Delort residence remains a remarkable example of the Jura architectural heritage, combining the 18th century heritage and Napoleonic modifications. Its inscription in historical monuments in 2006 underscores its heritage value, both for its architecture and for its connection to local and imperial history.
