Origin and history
This 16th and 17th century residence, classified as a Historic Monument, is distinguished by its regular facade with two levels of rectangular windows. The spans alternate between single windows and stud windows, resting on a continuous banner. The exterior staircase, characteristic of the time, consists of two stone flights with a wrought iron ramp, adding a touch of functional elegance to the architectural ensemble.
Inside, the ground floor preserves a 17th-century fireplace, decorated with acanthe leaf motifs, as well as Louis XIII style doors. The interior decor, mainly Louis XV style, includes marble panelling and fireplaces, reflecting the stylistic evolutions of the following centuries. The 17th century structure, composed of five farms, remains visible and reflects the construction techniques of the period.
The residence, including the courtyard, cellars and the exterior staircase, was fully protected by a registration order dated August 11, 2014. Located at 36 rue Ernest-Renan in Besançon, it embodies the civil architectural heritage of Burgundy-Franche-Comté, combining Renaissance and classical influences. Its state of conservation allows to appreciate the superpositions of styles, from late Gothic elements to Baroque additions.
