Origin and history
The house of Pessac, classified as a Historic Monument, is an emblematic building of the 18th and 19th centuries. It consists of a main body extended to the east by outbuildings and to the west by an orangery, all surrounded by a park to the south. Its architecture reflects the successive transformations and enlargements, notably under the impetus of its eighteenth-century owner.
In 1787 Jacques Patin, a controller at the King's farm office, acquired the property. It is likely to undertake restoration and expansion work, adding a column porch and orangery. These developments, as well as the layout of the buildings and park, reflect the architectural taste and social practices of the provincial elite of the time.
The facades, roofs of the orangery and home, as well as the peristyle, were entered in the inventory of the Historical Monuments by order of 28 December 1984. This protection recognizes the heritage value of the whole, both for its architecture and for its history linked to the bourgeoisie of the Ancien Régime and the 19th century.
