Origin and history

The two menhirs known as Montmirat des Bondons are a megalithic site located in the commune of Bondons in the Occitanie region. These erect stones, whose precise dating is not mentioned in the available sources, testify to the ancient presence of people who marked the landscape by these monumental buildings. Their implantation in this isolated and preserved territory suggests a symbolic or ritual role, typical of the megaliths of that time.

In the wider context of Occitanie, both menhirs and Bondons are part of a prehistoric heritage shared with other regions of France. These monuments, often associated with funeral or astronomical practices, reflect the social and spiritual organization of neolithic communities. Their preservation until today allows us to study the techniques of size and erection of stones, as well as their integration into the local natural and cultural landscape.
