The gallery dolmen with the base of its tumulus (cad. I 768) : classification by decree of 12 October 1936, declassified by official gazette of 15 March 1967
Origin and history
Erdeven Gallery Dolmen is a megalithic monument emblematic of the Neolithic period, located in Erdeven, Brittany. This type of construction, characteristic of prehistoric societies, was generally used as a collective burial. Its architecture, composed of a gallery covered with stones, reflects the construction techniques and funeral beliefs of the time.
The dolmen was classified as a Historical Monument by order of 12 October 1936, before being declassified by an official newspaper dated 15 March 1967. This protection, then its withdrawal, illustrates the evolution of heritage conservation policies in France. Available data indicate that the site also includes remains of its tumulus, an essential element of this type of monument.
The location of the dolmen, although documented (5981 Rue du Marché, 56410 Erdeven), is considered to be of poor accuracy (note 5/10). This impreciseness may complicate its access or study, despite its archaeological importance. The monument is attached to the Morbihan department in Brittany, a territory rich in prehistoric remains.
No information is provided regarding the opening of the site to the public, its tourist purpose or related services such as guided tours. The available sources, including Monumentum and internal data, also do not mention any historical characters or specific events related to this dolmen, outside its classification and decommissioning dates.
