Dolmen d'Arlait B (Case A 414): entry by order of 1 September 1977

Origin and history

The Dolmen d'Arlait B of Château-Larcher is a megalithic monument dated Neolithic, a period marked by the emergence of agriculture and livestock in Europe. This type of structure, usually associated with collective burials, illustrates the funeral practices and beliefs of prehistoric societies of the time. Dolmens were often places of remembrance and gathering for local communities, playing a central role in their social and spiritual organization.

Located in the commune of Château-Larcher, in New Aquitaine (formerly Poitou-Charentes), this dolmen was listed as a Historical Monument by order of 1 September 1977. This official protection underscores its heritage and archaeological importance. Although the precise details of its construction and use remain partially unknown, its state of conservation and its approximate location (noted as "satisfactory a priori") make this a valuable testimony of the Neolithic past of the region.

The data available, especially from the Merimée database, confirm its membership in the territory of Vienna, in a rural environment marked by an ancient and rich history.
