Origin and history

Brangolí dolmen, also known as Cova del Camp de la Marunya, is a megalithic monument located in the town of Enveitg in the Eastern Pyrenees. He was first mentioned in 1921 by Pierre Vidal, although his initial description was incorrect. This simple type dolmen, without a corridor, consists of a rectangular chamber bounded by four orthostates in local granite. The cover table, polygonal and adorned with about thirty cupules, partially survived. The surrounding tumulus was abrased by successive cultures, leaving only vestiges east side.

The site has been looted over the centuries, but excavations have made it possible to find ceramic teasses, a polished shale plate, lithic tools (arrow points, blade) and a dark glass bead. The latter, analysed by mass spectrometry, suggests exchanges with the Middle East from the Middle Bronze. The Dolmen was classified as a historical monument on June 22, 1976, recognizing its archaeological and heritage significance.

The cups present on the cover table, dug by hammering, measure between 3 and 7 cm in diameter for a depth of 0.5 to 3 cm. These patterns, typical of megalithic art, could have a symbolic or ritual meaning. The funerary furniture discovered, though modest, offers an overview of the cultural practices and networks of the Neolithic era in this region of the Pyrenees.
