Origin and history

The Dolmen de Brevilliers is a megalithic monument located in the municipality of Brevilliers, in Haute-Saône (Department 70), in the region Burgundy-Franche-Comté. This type of structure, characteristic of prehistory, was generally used as a collective burial. Although its exact construction period is not specified, its classification as Historic Monument by decree of 7 September 1979 underlines its heritage importance.

Dolmens, widespread in several regions of France, were often associated with funeral and ritual practices of neolithic communities. In the local context of Upper Saône, these monuments illustrate the social organization and beliefs of ancient populations.
