Origin and history

The Dolmen de Cosquériou d'An Traon is a megalithic monument located in the commune of Bannalec, Brittany. This type of structure, characteristic of Neolithic, bears witness to the funeral and cultural practices of the ancient populations of the region. Although its exact construction period is not specified, it is part of the tradition of Breton dolmens, often associated with collective burials or places of worship.

The dolmens, such as that of Cosquari of An Traon, were generally erected by the agricultural communities of the Neolithic. These monuments served not only as burials, but also as landmarks in the landscape, often marking territories or gathering places. In Brittany, where megalithic remains are numerous, these structures illustrate the social and spiritual organization of prehistoric societies, as well as their mastery of stone construction techniques.
