Origin and history

The Dolmen de La Chambrette is a megalithic building located in a wood, at the top of a cliff in Nivillac, Morbihan. It is about 630 metres east of the port of Foleux and 200 metres south of Vilaine. His orthostates, in shale, define a room whose floor is paved. According to the archaeologist P.-R. Giot, this chamber was covered with a dry stone vault stacked "in piles of load".

Excavations, carried out at an indefinite time, revealed pottery coats of the hunting period and a flint of flint, confirming its neolithic origin. These findings suggest a funeral or ritual use, typical of the dolmens of this period.

The dolmen was classified as historical monuments by order of 9 March 1957, thereby recognizing its heritage value. Its precise location, near Vilaine and in a wooded setting, makes it a remarkable testimony of the architectural and cultural practices of Neolithic in Brittany.
