Origin and history
The Dolmen de la Petifaie, located at La Ferriere-de-Flée in the department of Maine-et-Loire, is a megalithic building also known as the Fairy wells or house of the Fairies. This small dolmen is distinguished by its visible cover table, while its sepulchral chamber, of sub-rectangular shape, is bounded by five ironware supports of local origin. According to an oral tradition, it was built and inhabited by fairies, later transformed into moles.
The monument was listed as historic monuments on May 30, 1990, recognizing its heritage value. Although its precise dating is not mentioned in the sources, its architecture and local denomination link it to prehistoric funeral beliefs and practices, typical of the megalithic sites of the region.
Available sources, including Michel Gruet's Mégalithes en Anjou (2005), highlight its importance in the archaeological landscape of Anjou. Dolmen is also referenced in the Merimée database as Dolmen du Puy-des-Fées, reflecting an ancient variation of its toponym. Its approximate location, near the road of Saint-Sauveur, makes it a point of interest for studies on megalithism in Pays de la Loire.
