Origin and history
The Dolmen de Rascassols, also known as the Dolmen de la Galaberte, is a megalithic monument located on the territory of the commune of Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort, in the department of Gard. This archaeological site dates back to the recent Neolithic and Bronze Age, periods marked by the emergence of collective stone funeral structures. Its inscription as a Historical Monument by order of 3 July 1990 bears witness to its heritage importance and the desire to preserve this prehistoric vestige.
The dolmen is located on a service path, near the old Monoblet road, in an area whose location is estimated to be fair (accuracy note: 5/10). Owned by the commune, it illustrates the funeral practices of the protohistoric societies of the region. These monuments, often associated with collective rites, reflect the social and spiritual organization of the communities of the time, although the specific details of this dolmen remain partially documented.
