Dolmen dit de Crouzeilles (Case E 514p): entry by order of 13 May 1959
Origin and history
The dolmen known as Crouzeilles is a megalithic monument located in the municipality of Saillac, in the Lot department (Occitanie region). This type of structure, characteristic of prehistory, generally served as a collective burial or ritual place. Although its precise dating is not mentioned in the available sources, its inscription as a Historic Monument in 1959 attests to its heritage importance.
Dolmens, widespread in this region, were often associated with the first agricultural and sedentary societies. They marked the landscape and played a central role in the funeral and symbolic practices of neolithic communities. In Saillac, as elsewhere in Occitanie, these monuments illustrate the evolution of construction techniques and beliefs of local populations during prehistory.
