Dolmen dit La Pierre-Levée de Maisonneuve (cad. E 101, 125): by order of 17 February 1956

Origin and history

The dolmen dit La Pierre-Levée de Maisonneuve is a megalithic monument located in the commune of La Roche-Rigault, in the department of Vienna (Nouvelle-Aquitaine). Daed of Neolithic, it illustrates the collective funeral buildings typical of this period, marked by the use of large stone erected to form sepulchral chambers. This type of structure reflects the beliefs and social organization of prehistoric local communities, often sedentary and organized around agriculture and livestock.

Ranked a Historic Monument by order of February 17, 1956, this dolmen is officially protected because of its archaeological and heritage interest. Available data, from sources such as Monumentum, indicate an approximate location, with a geolocalized accuracy considered "passible" (note 5/10). No additional information is provided on its current condition, its accessibility to the public, or any associated archaeological excavations.

The site remains a material testimony of Neolithic cultural and ritual practices in Poitou-Charentes (now New Aquitaine).
