Dolmen (Case C 425): entry by order of 7 December 2000
Origin and history
The Dolmen du Ruissard is a megalithic building emblematic of the Neolithic period, located on the territory of the commune of Montplonne, in the department of Meuse. This type of construction, characteristic of prehistoric societies, generally served as a collective burial or ritual place. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 7 December 2000 bears witness to its heritage and archaeological importance.
The location of the dolmen in the present Grand Est region (formerly Lorraine) is part of a geographical context where the Neolithic communities have left many traces of their occupation. These people lived mainly in agriculture, breeding and gathering, and organized their space around funeral or symbolic monuments such as this dolmen. These structures, often associated with religious or social practices, marked the landscape and served as benchmarks for successive generations.
The accuracy of its current location is considered satisfactory, facilitating its study and preservation.
