The dolmens of Kerantré and their tumulus, appearing in the cadastre of the commune section ZR parcel No 13, represented on the plan attached to the decree: inscription by order of 24 July 2023
Origin and history
The dolmens of Kerantré, located in the commune of Crach (Morbihan, Brittany), are megalithic remains dating from Neolithic. These funerary structures, composed of erect stones covered with tumulus, illustrate the ritual and architectural practices of the prehistoric societies of the region. Their precise location, at the place called Kerantré, was confirmed by GPS coordinates and a cadastral reference (section ZR, Parcel #13).
Classified as a Historical Monument by order of 24 July 2023, these dolmens and their tumulus are officially protected. Their inscription in the Merimée base and their approximate location (2bis Place-dit Kerantré) make it possible to envisage a more in-depth study of their archaeological context. However, the accuracy of their location is considered poor (note 5/10), which may complicate their accessibility or enhancement.
In the Neolithic era, Brittany was marked by an agropastoral society where megalithic monuments played a central role in funeral rites and the structuring of the territory. Dolmens, often associated with collective burials, reflect a complex community organization and advanced mastery of stone construction techniques. Their presence in Crach is part of a wider network of similar sites scattered throughout the region.
