Origin and history

The dolmens of Kerdaniel, although mentioned in the title, are not described in detail in the sources provided. They are one of many megalithic sites in the Locmariaquer region of Brittany, dating from the Neolithic. This period was marked by the erection of stone monuments, often linked to ritual or funeral practices, reflecting the social and spiritual organization of the communities of the time.

The Locmariaquer site is particularly rich in megalithic remains, with menhirs and dolmens scattered in a landscape shaped by rising waters from the Neolithic. These monuments, such as the nearby Menhir de Mein Er Mere, illustrate the adaptation of prehistoric populations to a constantly changing coastal environment, where some buildings are now found on the foreshore, partially submerged by the sea.

The Menhir by Mein Er Mere, although distinct from the dolmens of Kerdaniel, offers a representative example of these constructions. 8 meters long and located on the public maritime estate, it is visible only at low tide. Its designation as the Historic Monuments in July 2023 highlights the heritage importance of these remains, protected for their archaeological and cultural value.
