Origin and history

The estate, house and sawmill Bordes is an architectural complex located in the commune of Luxey, in the Landes department (40), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. This site was registered as a Historical Monument by decree of 16 August 2023, thus protecting all its constituent elements: the master house, the former sawmill with its equipment, as well as the outbuildings and their associated plots. These buildings are distributed over several cadastral parcels, including sections AB of parcels 154, 155, 605, 148, 153, and 932.

The location of the domain is specified by an approximate address, 2 Rue Jacques Desert, although geographical accuracy is considered poor (note of 5/10). This type of estate, combining housing and industrial activity as a sawmill, reflects the local economic organization, where the forest resources of the Landes have long played a central role. Sawmills were essential for wood processing, a major activity in this wooded area.

The recent registration (2023) of the Bordes estate as a Historic Monument underscores its heritage importance, both for its architecture and for its testimony of past industrial activities. Protected elements include not only buildings, but also sawmill equipment, providing a concrete overview of the techniques used. No information is available about opening to the public, visiting, or any services such as guest rooms.
