Origin and history

The estate of La Chute, located at Chanceaux-sur-Coisille in the department of Indre-et-Loire, is a historical monument whose protected elements date mainly from the second half of the 19th century. The site includes a master house, outbuildings (house, chapel transformed into a dwelling, kennel, bakery, commons, farm), as well as gardens, a vegetable garden, an orchard and water rooms. These constructions and improvements were completed or restored under the direction of Jean Bernard Sancholle-Henraux between 1850 and 1880, during which time the estate took its present form.

The registration decree of 28 May 2024 specifically protects the facades, roofs, and the library decorated with golden leathers of the master house, as well as the outbuildings and exterior spaces related to the Sancholle-Henraux intervention. The estate also includes functional elements such as a cistern, a hydraulic ram, and a cavalier driveway lined with bounds, reflecting the spatial organization and uses of a 19th century bourgeois rural estate. The property, now shared in private hands and the municipality, bears witness to the architecture and way of life of the local elite of that time.

The gardens and the wooded perspective towards the east, as well as the agricultural and residential buildings, illustrate a desire for harmony between nature and construction, typical of the large estates of the Centre-Val de Loire region. The whole, although partially accessible, remains a preserved example of the rural heritage of the Second Empire and the Third Republic, marked by utility and aesthetics. The location of the estate, between communal and rural roads, underlines its anchoring in the territory and its historical role in the organisation of the local landscape.
