Origin and history
The Ferrage estate, located in Grasse in the Alpes-Maritimes, is a historic monument built between the second half of the 18th century and the first quarter of the 19th century. It consists of a housing body, a caretaker's house, a gate and a garden decorated with factories and accessories. These elements, characteristic of architecture and gardens of this time, reflect the taste for landscaped spaces and refined decors.
A room on the first floor of the house body is distinguished by its decoration of wallpapers, made between the late eighteenth century and the early nineteenth century. This decor is inspired by the Metamorphoses of Ovide, a mythological theme popular at this time. The estate also housed abstract painter Alberto Magnelli (1888–1971), adding a modern artistic dimension to his history.
The estate was the subject of successive protections: the facades, roofs, gate and garden were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 16 November 1989, while the room decorated with wallpapers was classified on 31 March 1992. Today, the estate belongs to a private company, and its current use (visits, rentals, guest rooms) is not specified in the available sources.
