Origin and history
The Larradé estate, classified as a Historical Monument, consists of a master house, buildings of communes (chai, bread oven, orangery, washhouse, etc.) and a large agricultural complex (prairies, woods, fields). Located at the top of a hill between Benesse-lès-Dax and Heugas, it overlooks the road connecting these two villages, close to water mills. This strategic site, occupied by the end of the 16th century, was a fief dependent on Heugas lords.
According to the archives, the estate was built around 1600 by Jehan de Larrey, prosecutor at the presidial headquarters of Dax, who allegedly received it from the Lord of Heugas. Larradé was then an aft-fief, where the farmer owed the cens to both the Lord of Heugas and the Sieur de Larradé. The Larrey family retained the estate until 1792. In the 19th century, new owners changed the site, expanding its operations and partially transforming its structures.
The elements protected by the 2021 inscription include the facades and roofs of the house body, the commons, the cellar, the bread oven, as well as the cooler, the washer and its underground hydraulic network. These vestiges bear witness to the rural and seigneurial organization of the place, combining farming, noble residence and collective infrastructure (fontaine, leisure garden). The domain thus illustrates the evolution of a Dutch fiefdom between the former regime and the modern era.
Today, the property of Larradé retains an approximate location (1607 Route de Bagieu), with a cartographic accuracy considered fair. Its history reflects the social dynamics of the Landes, between land nobility, shareholding and economic adaptation to property changes.
