Origin and history

The Ry-Chazerat estate is an architectural complex located in the commune of Journet, in the department of Vienna, in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. This site, classified as a Historical Monument, consists of a castle, a park, as well as agricultural buildings and a lime oven, all protected by ministerial decree. The listing of Historic Monuments, effective since May 31, 2022, covers all designated cadastral parcels, thus highlighting its heritage and landscape importance.

The estate illustrates a typical example of the rural properties of the region, combining seigneurial habitat, agricultural and craft activities (such as lime production). These groups played a central role in the local economy, structuring the lives of surrounding communities around the exploitation of land and natural resources. Although the details of its specific history are limited, its recent ranking shows a desire to preserve this representative heritage of the Poitou-Charentes.

The domain's location, although documented (address and GPS coordinates), remains approximate according to available sources, with an accuracy considered "passible". Owned by a public administrative institution, its current status in terms of openness to the public, rental or accommodation is not specified in the data consulted. Protected elements include not only buildings, but also the site as a whole, reflecting a comprehensive approach to the conservation of built and natural heritage.

The 2022 Registration Order explicitly mentions the parcels concerned and a cadastral plan attached, indicating a rigorous approach to delineating the areas to be protected. This ranking is part of a broader development of rural estates in New Aquitaine, where lime kilns and historic farms are examples of past agricultural and industrial practices.

Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum database, provide administrative and technical information, but few details on social history or occupants of the estate. This gap underscores the potential interest in future research in order to complete the understanding of this site and its role in local and regional history.
